BCCAP Receives Grant from Target for the Healthy Families-TIP Program
The Burlington County Community Action Program has announced a partnership with Target in recognition of its efforts in promoting positive parenting and building healthy families. This grant is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and communities throughout the country, and will support Healthy Families-TIP, a program of Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey, throughout the state.
Healthy Families & Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey: Senator Whelan Home Visit
On July 14, 2009, the Honorable Jim Whelan of the 2nd District visited with a family benefiting from an Atlantic County home visiting program working to support new parents by teaching them how to be strong, capable caregivers for the babies. The Senator spent the afternoon with participants and staff from Healthy Families, a nationally recognized model for child abuse prevention offered in Atlantic County through the Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative and coordinated statewide by Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey, to learn first-hand how the program is strengthening families and promoting healthy childhood outcomes. Whelan shadowed a worker as she helped a parent care for a newborn baby in safe and nurturing ways.

This just in from our colleagues in home visiting around the nation: The US Senate is in the final stages of drafting their healthcare reform bill this week. Advocates at the national level have been working to encourage the Senate Finance Committee to include language in the healthcare reform legislation to establish a new federally funded home visiting program.
